After mixing, the two phases are allowed to separate, and the desired compound is recovered from the solvent-rich phase.Phases:The phase enriched with the extracted solute is called the extract.The depleted phase is called the raffinate.Stages: Industrial plants often use multistage, countercurrent processes to maximize extraction efficiency. This may involve multiple cycles of mixing and separation to achieve high purity and yield.Equipment: Common industrial equipment includes mixer-settlers, centrifugal contactors, pulse columns, and spray columns, which facilitate efficient phase contact and separation.
